Stolen Hearts (a poem)

I penned this the other day, with a lyrical component in mind, but as I cannot sing, I’ll just post it here for your reading pleasure. 🙂

I remember when life was easy
My heart didn’t do a thing
But keep me alive
The way God intended it to be
But then here you came
To take everything from me

What have you done to me?
You’ve taken this part of me
That I can’t ever get back
You didn’t swindle my money
No, you didn’t want that
You took my heart instead
And you can keep that
‘Cuz I don’t want it back

Burning inside of me now
What did you do to me?
With a flash of your smile
The sound of your voice
You drowned me in your eyes
No lifeboat in sight

What have you done to me?
You’ve taken this part of me
That I can’t ever get back
You didn’t swindle my money
No, you didn’t want that
You took my heart instead
And you can keep that
‘Cuz I don’t want it back

You took a vital part of me
Turned me into mush
Now you’re gone
What am I to do?
No one ever told me it would be like this
I don’t know how to fix this
I think I kinda like it this way
Just come on
Make this picture in my head complete
And return my heart to me

What have you done to me?
You’ve taken this part of me
That I can’t ever get back
You didn’t swindle my money
No, you didn’t want that
You took my heart instead
And you can keep that
‘Cuz I don’t want it back
